Armenia Opens EU Fish Export Market With New Regulations
Armenia approves rules to enable fish exports to EU market
Armenia's government has approved regulations enabling fish producers to register in the European Union's Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES), opening exports to EU member states. The move follows EU authorization granted March 16, 2025, permitting Armenia to export farmed scaled fish and related products.
Under the new framework, fish farms, processing companies, and storage facilities must meet EU technical and food safety standards to obtain TRACES registration through Armenia's Food Safety Inspectorate. Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan called the decision strategically important for diversifying export markets and modernizing domestic production. Five Armenian companies have already expressed interest and currently meet required standards.
Armenian officials are simultaneously pursuing observer status in the EU's digital transit system to enable electronic transmission of export documentation to customs authorities before goods arrive.
