Armenia Leads UN Resolution on Women's Digital Rights
UN Human Rights Council adopts Armenia-authored resolution on women’s rights in digital technologies
The UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopted a resolution authored by Armenia addressing women's and girls' rights in digital technologies. The measure, co-sponsored by approximately 50 countries across all UN regional groups, was presented by an interregional coalition including Armenia, Estonia, Rwanda, Uruguay, Senegal, Sweden and Kazakhstan.
The resolution targets three priorities: ensuring technology access, promoting women's full participation in digital governance and AI development, and protecting against technology-related harms. It addresses emerging concerns including algorithmic bias, discriminatory design, and underrepresentation in datasets.
Armenia's UN Permanent Representative Hasmik Tolmajyan highlighted how rapid technological advancement risks reproducing existing inequalities. The initiative reflects Armenia's commitment to gender equality in digital transformation, citing the country's notable female representation in its technology sector.
