Armenia Launches Plan to Boost Domestic Wheat Production

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan convened a consultation to review findings from a study on the country's wheat value chain and develop strategies to increase domestic production. Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan presented data on current wheat production and import volumes, self-sufficiency levels, yield indicators, and sector challenges including quality and storage capacity issues.

Participants discussed implementing mechanisms to strengthen the wheat sector and adopt intensive cultivation strategies. Pashinyan instructed authorities to identify unused agricultural land suitable for wheat farming, develop an investment program, and submit recommendations for further review. The government aims to reduce Armenia's dependence on wheat imports through increased domestic production.
