Armenia eyes TRIPP railway project for regional connectivity
TRIPP could integrate Armenia into international railway network – PM
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has identified the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) as a strategic priority for Armenia, stating the infrastructure project could integrate the country into international transport networks while respecting Armenian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The multi-modal initiative would include railways, pipelines, roads, and power lines. A railway component along the Nrnadzor-Agarak route in southern Armenia would connect to Azerbaijan's Nakhichevan and onward to Russia and Central Asia. Pashinyan noted the project could enable a Persian Gulf–Black Sea railway through Iran, Nakhichevan, Armenia, and Georgia.
Pashinyan called on Russia to transfer concession rights for the Yeraskh-Akhurik railway section to a third-party operator, citing Western sanctions that discourage international freight operators from using Russian-managed infrastructure.
The U.S.-Armenia framework agreement for TRIPP is in ratification, with a development company pending establishment. Armenia would hold a 26% stake; the U.S., 74%.
