Armenia assesses Ebola importation and spread risk as low
Armenia's National Center for Disease Control and Prevention has determined the risk of Ebola importation and spread within the country is low, despite an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The DRC outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain, has resulted in 3,360 confirmed cases and 1,487 deaths—the largest recorded outbreak of this strain. Uganda declared itself Ebola-free on July 28, 2026, after its final confirmed case on June 21. Armenia's low-risk assessment is based on the absence of direct travel links with affected countries and Ebola's transmission pattern, which requires direct contact with infected blood or bodily fluids. The NCDC stressed maintaining epidemiological vigilance and advises against non-essential travel to outbreak areas, while continuing to monitor the global situation and implement WHO recommendations.
