Animated Film Brings Armenian Epic 'Mher' Into Modern Era
“Little Mher” brings Armenian epic into AI Age

An 80-minute animated feature film titled "Little Mher" premiered May 31 in Yerevan, adapting the legendary hero from the Armenian national epic "Daredevils of Sassoun" for contemporary audiences. Rather than retelling the traditional story, the film imagines Mher emerging from the Cave of Ravenstone into present-day Armenian reality.
Director Hovhannes Margaryan said the project combines Armenian cultural heritage with artificial intelligence technology. AI was used exclusively for visual imagery and animation, while Armenian actors, musicians, screenwriters and artists handled creative direction, voice acting and artistic supervision. The film features prominent Armenian actors including Khoren Levonyan, Sos Janibekyan and Levon Harutyunyan.
A significant challenge involved synchronizing AI-generated visuals with Armenian speech, as most AI systems are trained primarily in English. The filmmakers plan to release the film internationally in multiple languages.
