US and Iran Exchange Strikes in Escalating Gulf Conflict
US launches strikes on Iran for second night, as Tehran targets bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar
The United States launched a second night of strikes against Iran, hitting approximately 90 targets, according to US officials and BBC reporting. Iranian media confirmed explosions along the country's southern coast and on Iranian-controlled islands in the Persian Gulf.
In response, Iran targeted US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, according to Tehran's claims and reports from Gulf nations. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran's chief negotiator with the US, stated that America "still hasn't learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free."
Donald Trump said Iran wants to negotiate but questioned whether they are "worthy" of talks—a reversal from his earlier statement that negotiations would be a "waste of time." The escalation follows US strikes on Tuesday, which US Central Command said were in response to attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
