Ruben Rubinyan elected Speaker of Armenia’s 9th National Assembly
Ruben Rubinyan has been elected Speaker of Armenia's 9th National Assembly, receiving 63 votes in favor and 28 against from the 91 lawmakers who participated in the vote. The 36-year-old was nominated by the ruling Civil Contract faction.
Rubinyan holds degrees from Yerevan State University, University College London, and Jagiellonian University in Poland. His career includes work as Armenia's Deputy Foreign Minister from 2018 to 2019 and as the country's Special Representative for normalization talks with Türkiye from 2022 to 2026. He was first elected to parliament in 2018 and previously served as Deputy Speaker following the 2021 snap elections.
A founding member of the Civil Contract party, Rubinyan completed military service in the Armenian Armed Forces between 2012 and 2014.
