Pashinyan receives Hessian Peace Prize, says peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan have embraced and defended peace
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the Hessian Peace Prize at a ceremony in Wiesbaden, Germany, in recognition of his efforts toward peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. German state officials and foundation leadership commended Pashinyan's work on democratic reforms and EU relations. In his acceptance speech, Pashinyan highlighted a peace agreement signed in August 2025 following the Washington Peace Summit, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He noted that since spring 2024, when border delimitation talks began, there have been no casualties from border incidents—described as unprecedented in recent decades. The two countries signed a joint document establishing the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration as the basis for border demarcation, with both nations recognizing each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Pashinyan credited Trump's involvement and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's cooperation, while emphasizing public acceptance of peace efforts.
