Pashinyan: Armenia Understands Simultaneous Membership in EAEU and EU Is Impossible
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union's Intergovernmental Council that Armenia recognizes the impossibility of maintaining simultaneous membership in both the EAEU and the European Union.
The remarks reflect Armenia's ongoing geopolitical positioning between Russia-led economic structures and potential European integration. The EAEU, a trade bloc including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, maintains terms that restrict members from independent trade agreements with other major economic unions.
Armenia has been a EAEU member since 2015. Pashinyan's statement acknowledges the practical constraints Armenia faces in balancing its relationships with Moscow and Western Europe, particularly as the country has sought closer ties with European institutions in recent years.
