French-Armenian team uncovers rare ancient mural at Erebuni

A joint French-Armenian archaeological mission has discovered a rare fragment of an ancient mural with exceptionally preserved colors at the Erebuni archaeological site in Armenia, according to an announcement from the French Embassy. The find is believed to date to the second half of the 7th century BC or early 6th century BC and is considered unprecedented in its condition and significance.

Erebuni, founded in 782 BC by Urartian King Argishti I, ranks among Armenia's most important archaeological sites and provides crucial insights into the ancient Kingdom of Urartu. The discovery underscores the long-standing scientific collaboration between France and Armenia in archaeological research, a partnership that continues to yield significant findings at one of the region's most studied locations.
