Former Ambassador Warns of Territory Concessions in Tigranashen
Ambassador warns of Goris-Kapan repeat in Tigranashen, says Baku has no legal claim
Former Armenian Ambassador Dzyunik Aghajanyan has cautioned against potential territorial concessions involving Tigranashen, arguing there is no legal basis for surrendering Armenian territory. Speaking to The Armenian Weekly, Aghajanyan, who served as ambassador to the Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, characterized any such concessions as violations of Armenia's constitution and laws.
Aghajanyan drew parallels to the 2020 transfer of the Goris-Kapan road to Azerbaijan, noting similar tactics of introducing Azerbaijani place names into public discourse. She argued this road transfer has created ongoing security problems, with transit times increasing from 10 minutes to 1.5-2 hours via bypass routes.
According to Aghajanyan's analysis, territorial losses pose three dangers: disruption of strategic road connections to southern Armenia, geopolitical isolation of the region, and creation of conditions for military operations against Iran.
