FIFA Opens Investigation Into Argentina Post-Final Altercation

FIFA's disciplinary committee has opened an investigation into altercations involving Argentina's players and coaching staff following their World Cup final loss to Spain on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

According to BBC reporting, several Argentine players—including Nahuel Molina, Leandro Paredes, and Thiago Almada, along with assistant coach Roberto Ayala—were involved in confrontations with Spanish players after the final whistle. Players or coaches found culpable could face suspension, while the Argentine Football Association may incur fines.

Initially, Leandro Paredes appeared to receive a red card for an altercation with Spain's Eric Garcia, but the dismissal was rescinded and FIFA confirmed no disciplinary action was taken at the time. Argentina had already seen Enzo Fernandez sent off during second-half stoppage time.

FIFA is also investigating Argentina's display of a banner supporting their country's claim to the Falkland Islands following their semifinal victory against England.
