EU Commission President Praises Armenia's Visa Liberalization Progress
Von der Leyen praises Armenia’s progress on EU visa liberalization
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has commended Armenia's advancement toward visa-free travel with the European Union during a visit to Yerevan. Von der Leyen stated that Armenia is the only EU partner country currently engaged in active visa liberalization dialogue with the bloc, reflecting the strengthening partnership. The European Commission published a progress report on Armenia's Visa Liberalization Action Plan in April. Von der Leyen announced that new EU assessment missions will visit Armenia in autumn to evaluate progress on remaining benchmarks. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the government aims to achieve visa-free status by 2029, emphasizing that much depends on Armenia's own reform implementation. Both officials stressed the importance of the process to the Armenian public.
