Canada to Debut at Eurovision Song Contest 2027

Canada will compete in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, marking the first new country to join the competition since Australia in 2015. The European Broadcasting Union approved Canada's participation after the country's public broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada became a full EBU member.

Canada's entry comes amid Eurovision's recent controversies, including withdrawals by Ireland and Spain over Israel's participation. Canada will debut in the semi-finals, which will be held in Bulgaria.

Canada has historical ties to Eurovision through several artists. Celine Dion, born in Quebec, won the 1988 contest representing Switzerland with "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi." Other Canadian-connected performers include Natasha St-Pier from New Brunswick, who represented France in 2001, and Montreal-based La Zarra, who competed for France in 2023. CBC/Radio-Canada will announce selection details for Canada's 2027 entry later this year.
