Book Review: 'Defeat' Examines 2020 Karabakh War
Book Review: โDefeat: Documenting the Karabagh War of 2020โ

A new book published by the Gomidas Institute provides a structured analysis of Armenia's military defeat in the 2020 Karabakh War through interviews with senior political and military leaders. "Defeat: Documenting the Karabagh War of 2020," originally published in Armenian and now available in English, features 35 interviews with 31 key figures including Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, former President Serzh Sargsyan, and military commanders. Political scientist Vicken Cheterian synthesizes these accounts to examine structural failures, institutional gaps, and geopolitical miscalculations that contributed to the conflict's outcome. The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation supported the project as part of its Diasporan Perspectives initiative, prioritizing academic rigor over political comfort in addressing Armenia's 2020 conflict.
