Bipartisan Congressional Group Marks 1,000 Days of Armenian Detention
Sherman, McClintock to mark 1,000 days of Armenian hostages’ detention

Congressional Armenian Caucus members will hold a Capitol Hill press conference Tuesday to mark 1,000 days of Azerbaijani detention of Armenian prisoners of war, civilian hostages, and Artsakh leaders. Reps. Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Tom McClintock (R-CA), alongside Judy Chu and Laura Friedman, will speak at the event on the House Capitol East Front.
According to organizers, 19 Armenian hostages remain in Azerbaijani custody, including eight former Artsakh leaders. The press conference follows introduction of the Sherman Amendment to the House Foreign Service Act, calling for immediate release of Armenian prisoners, and seven pro-Armenian amendments to defense and appropriations bills now under House Rules Committee review.
Armenian detainees have reported torture and abuse throughout their detention. In February 2026, Azerbaijan sentenced hostages to prison terms ranging from 15 years to life. The ANCA will webcast the event live on social media platforms.
