Artist Senia Baloyan explores loss and silence through paint
An underwater village and silenced pain in Senia Baloyan’s art

Senia Baloyan, a young Armenian artist from Shirakavan in Shirak Province, creates works rooted in personal and collective memory. Her artistic journey began at age 17 under her father's encouragement and continues today under mentor Samvel Galstyan at the Gyumri Branch of the State Academy of Fine Arts.
Baloyan's paintings often draw from her borderland upbringing and family history—her father's ancestral village lies submerged beneath the Akhuryan Reservoir. Works like "15 Past 19" blend personal impressions with historical loss, combining Turkish music heard at the border with views of the ruins of Ani.
Recently, she has focused on social themes, particularly violence against women. Her "Mama" series uses abstraction and symbolism rather than graphic depiction to explore women's silence and its consequences, informed by conversations with survivors.
