Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals has replaced the pre-trial detention of former Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan with house arrest, according to an announcement by his lawyer Ruben Melikyan.

Ashotyan, who also serves as vice chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, was arrested on June 5, 2026. An appellate court granted his defense team's motion after a lower court extended his detention by one month in early July.

The case involves allegations of abuse of official authority and money laundering. Prosecutors say Ashotyan allegedly participated in the removal of a property on Pushkin Street in Yerevan from state ownership and its transfer to private individuals. The property was formerly owned by Valery Bryusov State University. Ashotyan denies the charges.
